美国大学实行的都是学分制。一般来说，一门课1-4个学分（credit），学生一学期修3-5门课也就是9-15个学分。全日制学生本科一学期最少修12个学分，研究生最少修9个月分，美国要求一年至少修2个学期，也就是本科一年最少24个学分，研究生18个学分。
