How the University of Exeter helps with employability

How do traditional universities respond to the changing needs of business organisations?  The University of Exeter, a top 20 ranked UK university based 2.5hours from London, is an example of a centre responding to change.

The University of Exeter is having a very successful year.  It was awarded the prestigious title of UK “University of the Year 2008” by The Times newspaper as the best UK University.  The School of Business and Economics was ranked Number 1 in the UK for student satisfaction in Accounting, Business, Finance and Management and Number 5 for Economics. 

This reflects innovations developed by both the University and its School of Business and Economics.  It has developed more innovative courses that respond to the needs of the marketplace.  It is one of only five UK universities to offer a Masters degree in Finance Analysis and Fund Management that incorporates the highly sought-after Chartered Financial Analyst Professional Qualification.  The business school has also launched an innovative new Masters in Service Science and Management.  The course director worked closely with senior management at  various organizations in UK such IBM to design a programme that helps consider how organisations can offer high level service, not just a leading product.  The business school also understands that more students want to work in business and so offers a Masters in International  Management  (with optional specialisms in Tourism, Marketing and Entrepreneurship) for students who did not study business at Bachelors level.

The School of Business and Economics has also invested in new resources including a Dealing Centre sponsored by European investment company, Reuters.  The University offers a Careers Advisor who is dedicated to the needs of International Students and graduates have been employed by some major organisations around the world, including Citibank, JP Morgan, KPMG and Sinopec.
 
The university currently has 300 Chinese students in a total population of 13,500 so classes are internationally diverse, ensuring students learn about best business practice from all over the world.
