8月22日，DIMA(Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs)大臣的政务次官、参议员Kay Pattern 宣布了校园网上申请“工作许可”项目的详情，在之前该项目已经过试用并获得了成功。

计算机科学公司（Computer Science Corporation)参与了该合作项目，并给予技术支持，从而为通过信用卡业务付款提供了安全可靠的途径。
国际学生只有在抵达澳大利亚并开始课程学习后才能申请工作权利。在学校上课期间，学生每周工作时间限制在20小时以内，在假期期间则可以全天工作。
Patterson说：“重要的是，SIP工程满足了在线政府保护其客户的隐私权和保证所传送数据的完整性和安全性的要求”。

The Student Internet Project has been developed to allow overseas
students to lodge an application for a student visa with permission
to work through their university. If you have family members with you
in Australia, theymay also be able to apply for permission to work on
the same application.
The basis for the project is an agreement between the Department of
Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) and participating
universities to provide a faster, more efficient service in issuing
student visas with permission to work. It is expected this project
will cut waiting times for students and allow quicker visa approvals,
particularly during peak times such as the beginning of semesters. A
further benefit for eligible students at participating universities
is that they will no longer have to travel off-campus to lodge an
application for permission to work.
If you are an eligible student at a participating university in
Sydney or Melbourne, you are able to lodge directly with your
university an application for a student visa with permission to work.
Once a visa application is received at the university, staff will
enter your details on computer and transmit it electronically to DIMA
via the Internet. At DIMA, the applications are assessed against the
relevant criteria before a decision is made. If successful, a visa
label will be sent to your university to be placed in your passport.
所交费用不变：
The visa application charge for a student visa with permission to
work is $50.00. This is the same amount as students would pay if they
were making an application at a DIMA office. At the university,
payment can be made by EFTPOS or credit card (except at The University
of Melbourne which only accepts credit card transactions).
网上申请需提供的个人信息：
1.visa number;
2.date of birth;
3.family member's visa number (if applicable);
4.family member's date of birth (if applicable);
5.current residential address and phone number; and
6.if payment is required, either:
your credit card number, card holder's name and expiry date, or
your EFTPOS reference number and payment date.
DIMA and the universities use security measures to protect the
information students provide against unauthorised access by other
parties as it travels across the Internet.
