昨日出版的《麦克琳》（Maclean''s）杂志，首次公布了全国 40 所最佳高中学府的名单，其中多伦多与渥太华各有一所高中名列前 10位。
《今日家长》（Today''s Parent）杂志，昨日亦首次公布了全国 40所最佳学校名单。安省有 10 所学校榜上有名，其中 2 所在多伦多。
目前，全国有 1 万 6000 所公立中学，全国 93% 的学子就读与这些公立中学。
麦克琳杂志编辑佛格森表示，尽管公校系统存在资金不足并遭到诸多批评，但这些公校都有丰富的理念、专家及向学生奉献的精神。
在麦克琳杂志的 10 个评比项目中，多伦多的 Earl Haig 高中夺得“课外活动”项目的冠军。渥太华的 Canterbury 高中夺得“艺术”项目的冠军。
Earl Haig 高中位于多伦多北面，学生人数逾 2000 人。课外活动体现多元化与多样化，像研究日本喜剧的 Manga and Anime 俱乐部，由学生自己主编、已发展到一年 4 期的 Boku 中文杂志、学生电影节、以艺术及文学为中心的 A Minor Variation 杂志等。
与此同时，面向少年儿童家长的“今日家长”杂志，亦评出了全国40 所最佳公立学校。今日家长的评比项目也是 10 个，每个项目评出 4 所优胜学校。
在“迎接挑战”项目中，位于多伦多 Gateway 55 号的 Gateway Public School 榜上有名。
这所学校共有近 1015 名学生，面临的挑战是，学校规模大，有 17个入口，而且地处人口密集的市中心地区。学校教职员工想尽办法维护及保障学校建筑的安全，并规定从早上 8 时至傍晚 4 时，所有学生必须从一个主门出入，托儿所员工与教师，则通过刷卡系统出入学校。
位于万锦与艾格林顿路 Cuella 街 15 号的 Scarborough Village Alternative School，在“提供特殊需要”项目中胜出。
这所面向有特殊需要学生的学校，共有学生 245 名，包括 35 名参加学校装配与音乐课程的重度残障学生。该校还计划从今年起，向身体残障但智力达平均水平的学生，提供相应课程。
