[出国在线]Being a thoughtless mouthpiece of the government betrayed my career idea as an acute and profound observer. The huge difference between ideal and reality sunk me into despair swamp. I even began to regret my choice to be a reporter. At the same time, my inborn habit of asking ‘why’ led me into serious thoughts. A lot of fresh questions came into my mind: Why and how does the government control mass media so strictly? What’s the result of such control? Can mass media that are controlled so firmly still play their role in the society? Can a society develop healthily without press freedom? Once mass media is no longer controlled, what social changes will come into being? What effects will Internet bring to China, one of the only few countries which have tight-gripped media and a great Internet-user population?

These questions that have not yet been systematically studied by Chinese academicians are spreading a beautiful virgin earth in front of me. I am excited by the idea of setting up my own theory framework to explain special mass communication phenomena of China and then forecast the future changes. Therefore, I decide to convert my professional orbit from a practitioner to a researcher in mass communication. That’s why I plan to study in your master’s program -- it’s a great step towards my new dream. After finishing it, I would continue Ph.D. studies in US. Then, I will concentrate on the study of media systems and media effects. Internet’s media effects will also be my research emphasis, especially the democracy-enhancing aspects of Internet.

In my master’s study, I would like to study research methods and theories in mass communication to prepare myself for future doctoral study and research. I also plan to compare the media system of US with that of China on the basis of different social backgrounds in this period.

I believe the graduate program of -- would lead me well on the academic odyssey; I also believe my unique professional experience and viewpoints will contribute to the academic diversity of your school.

总结

　　出国是一条极其漫长、琐碎、痛苦的路程。没有坚强的毅力和信心，很可能中途放弃，看不到最后的胜利，尤其是在职的同志们。所有和我一样走过这条路的朋友都会有同感。曾和我一起并肩战斗的战友中，有好几位遇到挫折就没再坚持。但是，只要抱定了出国的决心，一步一步地往前走，胜利就会属于我们。
　　对我而言，这一切是一种升华和洗礼。我通过自己的努力再次证明了事在人为这个道理，也进一步地磨练了自己的意志。在这个过程中，我曾无数次地感到悲观、失望、郁闷、孤独，还生过一场大病。但是，我没有放弃。
