I commenced as Deakin University's sixth Vice-Chancellor on 19 July, 2010. I would like to record my admiration and gratitude to Professor Sally Walker who led the University as Vice-Chancellor with great success for the past seven and a half years. Her excellent stewardship has brought about Deakin's many achievements during this time.
Deakin is special and it is different. The best way to understand what is special about Deakin University is to read Deakin's Strategic Plan . Every aspect of Deakin University's activities is guided by its mission statement, its core commitments and its values as set out in the Strategic Plan which is entitled "Delivering Effective Partnerships". Our partnerships are with each of you, as students, as staff working in the University, and as members of our wider community. Making sure we do the very best we can is best done in partnership and in our community.
Delivering Effective Partnerships has served Deakin well since 2008. In 2011 I look forward to embarking on a consultation process to prepare for Deakin's next Strategic Plan which will be implemented in 2013. We will make very sure that everyone with an interest in the University is able to participate in the development of our new Plan.
We live in a rapidly changing world. Deakin University staff work hard to ensure our students learn well and leave the University as well-equipped and educated global citizens. This teaching excellence is supported by excellent research, relevant to our wider community.
